Texas women found guilty on kidnapping charges

Two East Texas women were recently convicted of kidnapping. This complicated case involved the two women apparently kidnapping an 8-month-old baby and hiding him until he was 8 years old. The case took an interesting turn when the two women claimed that they bought the baby from his mother for $200 and therefore had obtained child custody of the boy.

While the defense attorney argued that the child's birth mother did not show any concern for the child, the prosecution determined that the two women kept the boy out of the public eye because they knew they did not have any legal rights to him. The women did not get the child the appropriate vaccinations, enroll him in school or take him to the dentist. The jury considered these actions a contradiction to the women's claims that they cared for the child properly.

The missing boy was discovered after an investigation due to one of the women's newborn baby testing positive for marijuana. The investigators determined that the woman had the missing child and had been hiding him for several years. Throughout the court hearing, the two women continued to contradict each other. After the jury heard their stories, they sentenced one woman to 30 years in prison for injuring a child and another 8 years for kidnapping. The other woman received eight years for kidnapping and an additional eight years for causing reckless injury on a child. Both women continue to claim they did nothing wrong.

This is an example of a complicated kidnapping case that would need the help of a skilled family law attorney. An attorney can explain the legal process to those involved and ensure that the best interests of the child are considered throughout the litigation process.
