Divorced people in Texas who are involved in child custody disputes with their former spouses may be aware that child custody agreements are enforceable across state lines. They may not be aware that child custody orders are enforceable internationally. A woman discovered this when she took her children from California to Europe. Her children were reunited with their respective fathers after having been separated from them for 18 months.
For many decades gay or lesbian parents found it difficult to retain the custody of their children if they divulged the information to their straight partners. The situation often leads to a divorce and not amicable parting of ways for both sides. In recent years LGBT parents have been given more consideration by the courts where the final decisions about custody is not solely based on sexual orientations.
