Modifying a Texas child support order

A Texas court will consider changing a child custody or support order in response to a Petition to Modify the Parent-Child Relationship. The process is more efficient if both parents agree to the modification. However, regardless of whether the parents agree or disagree, this petition is the first step to modifying a support order.

Divorced parents must follow regulations to travel with children

Federal guidelines on international travel for children are meant to protect divorced parents in Texas and other states from having their children taken by their exes. According to federal law, both parents need to be present when children get their passports, or individuals with sole custody need to show proof of their custody arrangement. When two parents take their children to get passports, they need to show proof that they are legally the parents of any juveniles 16 years old and under. Parents not traveling with their children must provided notarized consent for their children to leave the country.

Custody agreements are enforceable internationally

Divorced people in Texas who are involved in child custody disputes with their former spouses may be aware that child custody agreements are enforceable across state lines. They may not be aware that child custody orders are enforceable internationally. A woman discovered this when she took her children from California to Europe. Her children were reunited with their respective fathers after having been separated from them for 18 months.
